Raymond L. Blessey is a founding partner of Taylor Blessey LLP, a medical malpractice defense law firm in downtown Los Angeles. For the past 21 years he has specialized in defending individual health care providers and hospitals in medical negligence cases and medical board matters. He has tried or arbitrated more than 70 cases since 1998. Mr. Blessey is annually recognized by his peers as one of Southern California’s leading medical malpractice defense lawyers. He is listed among The Best Lawyers in America® and has been featured among Southern California Super Lawyers since 2006. As a result, has been featured in Los Angeles and Law and Politics magazines.
Prior to entering the field of law, Mr. Blessey spent 18 years in health care as a clinician, researcher, educator and author. His primary focus was in the field of cardiopulmonary medicine which included NIH-SCOR research projects dealing with Premature Athlerosclerosis and clinical practice in the areas of primary and secondary prevention. In addition, Mr. Blessey was involved with environmental health research examining the cardiopulmonary effects of air pollutants in normal and diseased subjects.
Mr. Blessey graduated from Ithaca College in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science degree and then went on to obtain a Masters of Science degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California in 1973. He obtained his J.D. degree from Southwestern University School of Law in 1994. He has been an Invited Lecturer at the University of Southern California School of Medicine, and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the USC Department of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy. Mr. Blessey is an Advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates. His professional memberships also include the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel, the State Bar of California, the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the American Board of Trial Advocates.
